Community Food Coordination Program

The community food coordination program aims to make it easier to give food and get food in Quesnel.

The Canadian Mental Health Association of Northern BC, Quesnel office, is invested in food security initiatives for people in need. Through community collaboration, service, and advocacy, we are working to break down barriers to accessing nutritious food, reduce stigma and advocate for upstream solutions addressing the root causes of food insecurity. 

Donations stay in Quesnel to support individuals and families in need. We do our best to source food from local and regional farms and food producers to strengthen our local food system. 

• Donate once or sign up to donate monthly. $40 per month provides a Fresh Food Box to a household in need. 
• Tax receipts are issued for donations of $20 or more.

What we provide:

For Those in Need of Food

• Up to date information on where and how to get food throughout the week
• Connection to local free or low-cost food programs and support accessing these resources
• Researching what food resources are needed in town and setting up programming to fill these needs

For Community Partners Engaged in Food Programming

• Support to break down barriers in continuing or expanding services
• Support in finding and accessing funding opportunities
• Coordination of collaborative multi-agency food programming
• Diversion of food waste and coordination of donations (ex. From grocery stores, restaurants, local farmers and gardeners)

For Those Who Want to Help

• Information on how to donate food, where to donate food and what can be safely and legally donated (including extra garden produce, prepared meals etc.)
• Information on what types of donations are needed by partner organizations
• Connection to volunteering opportunities
