Nekoo – Low Barrier Living
Nekoo is a low-barrier supportive housing program operated in partnership with CMHA Northern BC (Canadian Mental Health Association), ASAP (Active Support Against Poverty), and BC Housing.
The program provides safe, stable, and affordable housing for individuals who may be experiencing mental health challenges, substance use concerns, homelessness, or barriers to maintaining housing. Nekoo is designed to support residents in maintaining their housing while fostering independence, wellness, and community connection.
The building is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensuring residents have access to support whenever it is needed. In addition to housing, residents have access to a variety of services and supports aimed at promoting stability, recovery, and overall well-being.
Services and supports may include:
- Mental health and wellness support
- Housing stability and tenancy support
- Community resource navigation and advocacy
- Referrals to health and social services
- Crisis support and intervention
- Goal planning and support
- Social and recreational programming
- Cultural and community engagement opportunities
CMHA Resident Support Workers are on-site to provide day-to-day support, assist residents in accessing community resources, and help individuals work toward their personal goals.
Nekoo is also enhanced through Indigenous cultural programming and Elder support. Elders regularly visit the site to provide cultural teachings, traditional knowledge, connection, and support for residents who wish to participate.
Residents are provided with breakfast and dinner daily, with evening meals prepared by Two Rivers Catering.
Our goal is to create a welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment where residents can maintain housing, build connections, and improve their overall quality of life.
