Short-Term Individual Counselling

Are you feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or in need of support? CMHA Northern BC is now offering short-term individual counselling for adults in Prince George.

This free and confidential service is designed to provide up to 10 sessions (including the intake) to help you navigate life’s challenges and build skills to support your mental health.

Whether you’re dealing with stress, grief, anxiety, relationship struggles, or just need someone to talk to, you are not alone.

How to Get Started

Step 2: Fill it out (you can refer yourself or be referred by a professional)

Step 3: Email your completed form to counselling@cmhanorthernbc.ca

Once we receive your form, our team will review your information and follow up to schedule an intake appointment if you meet the program criteria.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What issues can I talk about in counselling?

You can talk about anything that’s impacting your mental or emotional well-being. Common topics include stress, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship challenges, identity questions, and emotional regulation. This is a safe and confidential space.

2. How many sessions do I get?

The program offers up to 10 counselling sessions, including the intake session. These sessions are short-term and goal-focused.

3. Who provides the counselling?

Counselling is provided by a Clinical Counsellor with experience in short-term, strengths-based, and culturally safe approaches.

4. What if I need more than 10 sessions?

If longer-term support is needed, your counsellor will work with you to identify appropriate referrals or community resources.

5. Can I refer myself?

Yes! Both self-referrals and referrals from professionals (like doctors, social workers, or community agencies) are accepted.

6. Is there a waitlist?

There may be a short wait depending on demand. All referral forms are reviewed carefully, and clients are contacted as space becomes available.

7. Is this service really free?

Yes. This counselling service is offered at no cost to eligible clients.

8. What if I’m using substances right now?

Unfortunately, this program does not provide support to individuals who are currently using substances. If you have a history of addiction or substance use disorder, you must have been sober for at least 90 consecutive days before starting counselling.

9. How do I submit my referral form?

Download the referral form from our website, fill it out, and email it to counselling@cmhanorthernbc.ca. You will be contacted after your form is reviewed.

10. Where are sessions held?

Sessions are currently being offered in-person in Prince George with plans to offer virtual services as well. Details will be provided after your intake is scheduled.

12. Do I need to book an appointment?

Yes. All counselling sessions are by appointment only.
We are currently not accepting walk-in clients. Once your referral form is reviewed, you will be contacted to schedule an intake appointment.
