Grid: 30 ($29.27/hr to start)
Hours: 25 hours/week term position to October 31, 2024 with extension possible.
Start/Stop times: To be determined
Work Area: Quesnel and surrounding areas
Reports to: Food Coordinator

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Food Coordinator, the Food Program Assistant provides administrative support functions for the Quesnel program as detailed within the outlined duties. This position also provides adequate support, training and supervision to community volunteers under the direction of the Food Coordinator.
Duties:
- Directing calls, receiving and relaying messages, responding to food rescue apps and calls, and any in-person or telephone inquiries. Refers problems to supervisor.
- Performs general word processing and data entry functions such as inputting and tracking food rescue information in relevant computerized systems, maintaining relevant registers and typing from rough draft or general instruction, including correspondence, report and documents.
- Performs general record management duties such as assembling files, assigning file numbers, preparing file folders, and filing and distributing documents and files appropriately in paper and computerized format.
- Performs general food rescue functions of delivery and pickup ensuring safety and security of products.
- Ensures upkeep and maintenance of all food program equipment including reefer van and cold transport.
- Maintains positive relationships with all community partners or potential partners. May assist Food Coordinator with meeting attendance as required for community meetings or events.
- Assists and supports volunteers to meet pre-established goals and objectives including determining methods of operating the program.
- Places and schedules volunteers by performing duties such as liaising with managers, matching volunteer skills with available opportunities and preparing volunteer work schedules.
- Supervises volunteers in conjunction with Food Coordinator by performing duties such as input into evaluating performance, providing feedback and praise, following up on complaints and taking appropriate action.
- Develops and implements client volunteer recognition programs in conjunction with Food Coordinator.
- Provides input to the Food Coordinator regarding policies, procedures, goals and evaluation of the client volunteer program and the food bank operations.
- Provides client support, including client registration and service.
- Assists with fundraising coordination.
- Prepares social media and newsletter content, and other marketing and communication materials.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Working conditions:
Will primarily work out in the community of Quesnel and surrounding area with an office base. This position will require a significant amount of flexibility. Basic hours will be primarily maintained and adjusted as needed to meet volunteer and food program needs with the authorization of the Food Coordinator.
Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience:
- Diploma in Community Social Services or Volunteer Management or Peer Support or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Recent related experience of two years
- Proficiency in use of software packages and computer systems in use with CMHA – Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint and Publisher
- Class 5 driver’s license and reliable vehicle
- Ability to type 40 wpm
- Certificates in First Aid, Food Safe and Food Handling
- Ability to obtain a valid RCMP clearance check
- Experience working with/coordinating volunteers an asset
- Knowledge of mental illness and experience with the mental health system an asset
- Social media and digital marketing and communications an asset
