CMHA’s Second Chance Thrift Store Calls for Winter Clothing Donations to Keep Prince George Warm
Oct 20, 2025
Prince George, BC – October 20, 2025
As the northern chill sets in and winter makes itself at home in Prince George, CMHA of Northern BC’s Second Chance Thrift Store is asking for the community’s help to keep our neighbours warm. The store’s shelves are in urgent need of winter clothing donations — coats, boots, scarves, gloves, toques, socks, and cozy sweaters — to support people in the inner city and throughout the broader community.
Every donation that comes through the door at Second Chance does more than clothe someone; it wraps them in the warmth of community care. “This time of year, we see so many people looking for a second chance — not just in clothing, but in hope,” says Elaine Laberge, Executive Director of CMHA of Northern BC. “Each jacket, toque, pair of socks, or mittens you donate helps someone face the winter with dignity and comfort.”
The Second Chance Thrift Store isn’t just a place to shop; it’s a cornerstone of compassion, run by volunteers with living experience of mental illness. The store offers a safe and supportive environment where people gain confidence, build skills, and experience meaningful connection. Proceeds from the store directly support CMHA’s mental health programs and social initiatives across Northern BC, creating a cycle of giving that strengthens our community from the inside out.
How you can help:
- Donate gently used or new winter clothing, footwear, and accessories.
- Drop off items directly at Second Chance Thrift Store, 1152 3rd Avenue, during regular hours Monday to Friday.
- Encourage friends, family, and workplaces to join in — every contribution makes a difference.
As the snow begins to fall, Second Chance Thrift Store reminds us all that kindness never goes out of season. Together, we can make sure everyone in Prince George walks a little warmer this winter.
